How to find your showerhead's water flow rate

Option 1: Check Your Showerhead

Many showerheads have the water flow rate printed on them. Check your showerhead for print with the flow rate, for example 2.5 L/min or 9.5 gpm (gallons per minute).

Option 2: Conduct a Flow Rate Test

Another way is a bit more hands-on! Get a bucket (with volume markings) and place it under the showerhead.

Turn on the shower for 1 minute. Afterwards, turn off the shower and measure how much water the bucket has collected.

For more accurate results, you can run this experiment several times and use the average water flow rate across all tests.

Next Steps: Use This Flow Rate in the Bathtimer App

Because the Bathtimer app already tracks the amount of time you spend showering, all you need to do is save your showerhead's flow rate to the app and we'll automatically report how much water you used for a particular shower!

Your water usage stats are saved across all of your showers that have been given this water flow rate. The amazing thing about this is that you can then use the app to see your water usage over time!

To take this a step further, the following are coming soon to the app:

  1. A cost explorer: Soon you'll be able to track your water costs based off your water usage.
  2. The ability to set goals on water usage and costs: pretty self-explanatory, I hope you're as excited as I am for this feature!
